Best Practice 1

  1. Title of the Practice

 Participative Management

  1. Goal

To inculcate a sense of belongingness and responsibility in the faculty for the overall development of the college through collaborative and participative management. The faculty members are oriented and motivated to plan, organise and implement activities related to a specific institutional requirement such as conduct of curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

  1. The Context

A person can perform excellent if he/she develops sense of belongingness towards the organization. Staff can give their best and successfully fulfill their responsibilities only when they enjoys certain authority and freedom. Only those organizations that are able to motivate their staff to see and take responsibility for the overall functioning of the organization can go the extra mile in delivering quality output through coordinated and concerted efforts of the staff and not through individual excellence.

  1. The Practice

Entire responsibility of administration lies with the Principal with his/her administration staff. In order to successful execution of the college activities it is necessary to involve all the staff members right from planning till execution. This practice helps to develop the feeling of responsibility in the staff members. We in our college have grouped all staff members and formed various committees such as:

  1. Examination Committee
  2. Purchase Committee
  3. Placement Cell
  4. Library Committee
  5. Discipline Committee
  6. Attendance Committee
  7. Cultural Committee

The members of each of these committees are drawn one from each department. The Principal of the college serves ex-officio as chairman of all these committees. The members of each of these committees meet on a regular basis to plan, coordinate and implement various developmental activities under their purview. The challenge faced in such an approach is to bring all faculty involved onto a common platform to be able to appreciate the overall vision of the institution and identify what needs to be done in their respective domains that would enhance the performance of the institution.

Students are also involved in the committee work of the college. So every single staff members shall feel that he/she is also responsible for the overall success of the organization.

  1. Evidence of Success

All decisions related to a particular issue is taken in a committee meeting after discussing with all the members and accordingly resolutions are also passed. The resolutions and minutes of meeting are sent to Principal for approval. For ex. library requirements are purchased after discussion with the committee members and approval of the Principal. Capital equipments are purchased only after collecting at least 3 quotations from 3 different suppliers. Thereafter quotations are scrutinized and the best quotations which is in the benefit of the institution is approved after consultation with staff members and Principal.

College cultural activities are also planned after discussion with all the members of cultural committee including students and accordingly responsibilities are given.

  1. Problems Encountered and Resources Required

One of the biggest challenges in this Endeavour has been to bring all the faculty on board to equally appreciate the task at hand and deliver effectively. All faculty are part of this effort beginning from the most newly recruited to the senior-most. Significant amount of time is spent in orientation of the faculty to appreciate the challenges on hand. While this may appear to be a limitation, it greatly helps capacity building for the system. Faculty at the junior-most level learn to appreciate the challenges faced in administration. The greatest benefit is that it fosters a sense of belongingness and team-spirit.

Certificate Course on Basic Accountancy

  1. Goal

To help the students to achieve success in the journey of their career in Accountancy.

  1. The Context

Nowadays only academic knowledge is not enough to survive in the competition. A person needs to possess the practical knowledge to swim in the ocean of career in accountancy. Therefore, it is necessary on the part of the institution to give practical knowledge to the students so that they can easily be placed on job and endure in today’s competitive world.

  1. The Practice

Every year department of accountancy conduct 2 to 3 weeks Certificate Course in Basic Accountancy in the month of June/ July. The main purpose of conducting such certificate course is to help the students to understand the basic accountancy who enroll in F.Y.B.Com. from different streams i.e. other than commerce. It would further help them to cope up with other students in understanding of accountancy at second and third year level.

During the academic year 2022-23 our college has organized a 2 weeks Certificate Course on Basic Accountancy. Faculties from Accountancy department conducted series of lectures on the basic topics of XI and XII standards of commerce. After successful completion of the course, class test was conducted to check the understanding of the students which was followed by certificate distribution.

  1. Evidence of Success

Students from all classes were informed to join the certificate course. Daily sessions were organized on different topics of accountancy such as Journal, Ledger, BRS, Cash Book, etc.

  1. Problems Encountered and Resources Required

Individual difference was the main problem to organize the certificate course as each one is different and unique. So it was very difficult to identify a particular student for a particular topic.

Since most of the students are working in day time and attending the lecture in evening, therefore it became little difficult for them to manage their time but same was handled by them successfully. Student had to make certain arrangements at their workplace.
